March 2019
As new journeys begin all around us with the arrival of Spring, I am excited to also begin my term as President of the GA Chapter AFS. I am grateful for what our Chapter has accomplished over the last year, and I look forward to the many things we hope to do and accomplish over this next year. Before we get too deep into that, I would first like to extend my appreciation to everyone who helped make our 2019 meeting in Cordele at Lake Blackshear such a success. We had over 120 participants, along with some great presentations and fun times during the social events. None of it would have been possible without help from our sponsors and the many hands it took to make the event such a success. So to each person who contributed, in big and small ways, THANK YOU! Our Executive Committee is actively seeking a location for our next Annual meeting in January 2020, so stay tuned to our website as we will keep you posted as to the exact details once they are finalized.
In the meantime, please note that we are planning to continue holding at least one, if not multiple, training opportunities again this year. These training events continue to be a great way to provide opportunities to hone skills or learn new ones. Some training workshops that we are considering include a fish disease workshop and a fish kill workshop, among others. If you have additional workshop topics, we strongly encourage you to email and let us know of those ideas!
Finally, as we embark on this upcoming year, I strongly encourage each of you to become actively involved in our Chapter. We have several committees that need members like you to serve, and our success as a Chapter cannot be fully achieved without people filling these vitally important roles. So, if you have a desire to get involved, please don’t hesitate to let us know! Similarly, if you have suggestions or ideas that you feel may benefit to our Chapter, please share them!
Hope to see you out on the waters of our beautiful state enjoying the many fisheries we have to offer!
